Dr Claudia Bortolaia was born in Italy in May 1975 and graduated with honours in Dentistry in 1999 at the University of Pisa, Italy. In 2000 she was granted a scholarship to attend a post-graduate course at the Royal Dental College at the University of Aarhus, Denmark, under the direction of Prof. Birthe Melsen, a world-wide known orthodontic scientist, author of many fundamental publications in this field. After her return to Italy, in 2001, she started worked with Dr Francesco Pedetta, a well-respected Italian orthodontist who specialised at the University of Pennsylvania and who taught her the American approach. Alongside this Dr Bortolaia started an internship in the Department of Orthodontics at the University of Siena, Italy. Her orthodontic training there enabled her to work on patients belonging to every group of age and walk of life.

In May 2003 she board-certified for the “Invisalign” technique, a very up-to-date orthodontic technique for adult patients that guarantees the best aesthetics during treatment. Dr Bortolaia is highly experienced in the use of a wide range of both removable and fixed appliance, each chosen to optimise every single treatment.

In January 2006 she moved to London and established her home here, where her two little girls were born. Before moving to London, Dr Bortolaia published several articles in Italian and international dental journals in collaboration with academics and practitioners and worked as an adjunct professor at the University of Pisa, teaching Periodontology and Implantology.

Outside work, Dr Bortolaia likes spending time with family and friends, travelling, cooking healthy and nutritious food, taking advantage of the endless possibilities of the London cultural scene and giving back to the community by volunteering for the school PTA.
