Dental Hygiene for Children

We recommend hygienist visits for most children from about age five.

Some children will benefit from seeing the hygienist sooner than this, depending on their individual needs and development. Prior to this, your child’s teeth will be cleaned within the examination appointment, and oral hygiene instruction will be given.

Our hygienist visits for children at 38 Devonshire Street are wholly interactive. They begin by applying a disclosing food dye to the teeth to demonstrate visually where the cleaning is good and where your child is missing when they are brushing. Guidance regarding brushing and flossing techniques is then given, which is specific to your child and in a way that they can understand and feel excited about. Our signature Guided Biofilm Therapy treatment is then carried out, which gently eliminates plaque and biofilm from all surfaces, followed by the careful removal of any deposits of scale.

Your child leaves with bright, sparkly, clean teeth and has been taught how to maintain their teeth in a healthy condition.
